Magic Sleek
Welcome to thebeautyblackout!
On my first post I'm going to talk about Magic Sleek!
What is Magic Sleek?
Magic Sleek is similar to a keratin treatment as in it removes frizz, makes the hair shinier and healthier. But, what makes Magic Sleek "different" is that it can permanently straighten the hair or keep curls if you would like while containing volume so it is not pin straight. Also Magic Sleek contains no formaldehyde.
Before I review Magic Sleek, let me give you a little overview on my hair. I have A LOT of very thick wavy/curly hair. It's puffy so I can't even wear it down. It's useless! The only time my hair looks really good is when I get it done at the salon.
So last year, I decided to have the keratin treatment done to my hair before I went on vacation. I did the Cezanne treatment which has no formaldehyde in it. It helped my hair so much, kept it frizz free, decreased the puffyness and volume of my hair a bit, and shortened the amount of time I spent blowdrying my hair which took almost an hour to straighten.
One day I got so sick of my hair that I was just like, you know what, I am going to do Japanese hair straightening. And I was like there has to be some treatment without formaldehyde. My cousin had done the Japanese treatment for a couple of years and she lost hair from it, not in patches just the amount in general. So I was a little scared to do it because I didn't want to ruin my hair. I did research on treatments that would permanently straighten my hair without formaldehyde and came across Magic Sleek on youtube. Magic sleek claims to permanently straighten your hair so you don't have to blow it or flat iron or anything to it but if you want to keep your curls you can. So it all depends on what you want.
Before I had done Magic Sleek at the original salon in NJ, I had:
Cezanne treatment 2x
Magic Sleek at a crappy salon in NY 1x
If you're going to do Magic Sleek at all, I would suggest doing it at the place in NJ which I will link below and here are my reasons why:
☆ You are paying a lot of money for this and want to have it done right
☆ They might lie to you about the process
☆ It's a waste of your time (I was at the salon for 6+ hours)
Here is how they do the treatment:

When I had it done at the crappy salon in NY he was being very cheap with the product, which my hair needs a lot because I have so much, he didn't even give me the Magic Sleek shampoo and conditioner, and he didn't blow dry my hair straight at the end which is what the video on youtube said would happen. It cost about $250.
MY ACTUAL REVIEW OF MAGIC SLEEK:
Magic Sleek claims to straighten your hair permanently or allow you to keep your hair curly, frizz free, and shiny. I had Magic Sleek done twice, the first time it went terribly so I decided to go to the owner that created the actual treatment.
Here is how they do the treatment:
(They deleted this video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vtmhp_YxhLU
**UPDATED VIDEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6g_NsPakFs
I wonder why they deleted the first video since it shows the girls hair coming out straight in the end. (Which didn't happen for me! )
**UPDATED VIDEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6g_NsPakFs
I wonder why they deleted the first video since it shows the girls hair coming out straight in the end. (Which didn't happen for me! )
When I had Magic Sleek done I wanted my hair to come out as straight as possible, and I requested that. They said of course it will work don't worry! It will come out straight and you won't even have to use a blowdryer or flat iron or anything. And they said it will last for about 5-6 months.
So, they did exactly what the video shows to my hair.
***What I came to realize at the end of the video where they blow the girl's wet hair straight, is that for me, when they did that, all they applied was conditioner and didn't scrub my hair. They didn't use shampoo. Also, the treatment/chemical was still in my hair. SO, when they blowed my hair after naturally and I'm assuming they did the same thing to the girl in the video, is when they just blow dry the hair, of course it's going to come out straight because the chemical is still in the hair. That is why overtime when I would shampoo my hair after the treatment, it just keeps getting wavier/curlier.
Two days later, I took a shower and used the Magic Sleek shampoo and conditioner. I blow dried my hair naturally and it came out basically straight, but had a little wave to it.
The next time I took a shower, I also blew out my hair naturally. It was wavier. And finally the next time I showered and blew my hair out naturally, it came out wavy-curly and required straightening.
I was pretty upset but decided it was better than not having any treatment in my hair to keep it somewhat calm and frizz free.
I wouldn't say Magic Sleek is any different than the Keratin treatment especially the Cezanne treatment that I had done. Magic Sleek is basically a keratin treatment. Yes I know Magic Sleek was created with stuff from the rainforest and sh*t but TBH it's no different. It was SO NOT WORTH THE $600.
Not only that but they promised me my hair would come out perfectly straight and wouldn't be like my previous experience.
I'm not saying Magic Sleek is terrible, but it does NOT promise what it says it will, at least for me the two times I had it done. It was a good "Keratin" treatment but not worth the money or time.
MAGIC SLEEK:
COST: $600+
TIME: 6+ hours
WORTH IT?: No

Wow that's absolutely amazing. Going to check out their site, great job on your first post, I'm excited to see more.
ReplyDeleteI have been using Magic Sleek for years and my hair is AMAZING!! before magic sleek my hair was so damaged that it didn't even grow, now it grows almost TOO MUCH!! my life is so much easier without all the frizz. magic sleek nowhere on their website or products claims to "permanently straighten" hair, but my results are phenomenal! just the way i like them. It sounds like the man who did your hair the first time did a crappy and careless job..but i go to the same salon as you in NJ and there is absolutely no way you payed $600 for this service. absolutely impossible. there is no other product on today's market that can do what magic sleek does!! I love it and don't know how anyone can disagree
ReplyDeleteAw you are so lucky it worked for you! Unfortunately, for me, both times, it didn't. Lol. On their website it says, "With Magic Sleek you can adjust your technique to achieve a super-straight look, still retain volume and body, or you can redefine curls removing frizz. " And since I wanted to make sure that it would definitely permanently straighten my hair, I called the hair salon directly and asked them many questions and they confirmed with me multiple times that it would straighten my hair permanently. I did pay $600 btw. I also have a lot of hair that was thick and a bit long. That is probably why they charged me so much but if not then I guess they ripped me off. How much did they charge you? Just wondering. xoxo

DeleteSince you are in the business do you know any good salons that perform the service on Long Island. Thank you if you are able to help I know that it is far from New Jersey but I don"t have a car to get that far
DeleteI do it here in Merrick
DeleteI had keratin treatment, and Olaplex treatment week ago. I don't know if this really working because my hair are still very damaged.
ReplyDeleteLet me know if it starts to work for you!I just got japanese straightening and probably will do a review on that also. Have you ever heard of the cezanne keratin treatment? It's formaldehyde free and you can dye your hair with it. It hardly damages your hair (besides the part where they have to flat iron the hair). :)
DeleteMagic sleek sucks!!! Such a waste of money!! My hair is extremely dry after it and I wish I have never done it, very very disappointing

ReplyDeleteI know right!! They are such liars that just say whatever the client wants to hear so they can take their money. TERRIBLE! I'm so sorry about your hair! Maybe you can have some sort of moisturizing repair treatment done to your hair to restore it? Good luck! <3
DeleteKeratin treatment is best.Hair products that contain protein. Protein helps to fortify the hair shafts, making hair less prone to damage.

Don't use this product with out testing it first on your hair! Weeks later my hair continue to damage!!

ReplyDeleteBased on ALL of my previous experiences, it's the same as getting a keratin treatment done like the Cezanne. It does NOT promise what it says it will do in terms of permanently straightening the hair. The creator of Magic Sleek completely lied to my face multiple times about this treatment and what it promised to do.

DeleteI wouldnt say its permanent as your hair does grow out. I was told it will last 4-6 months but mine lasted 8 months.I absolutely love it and think its 100% worth it.
DeleteI ve done magic sleek once a year for 4 years now... It is the best hair straightening out there, coming from someone who has done Japanese straightening for years and have had Brazilian and multiple keratin treatments that didn't last more than a few weeks. My hair is super wavy/curly and very frizzy. It's dry and after getting magic sleek it is super straight, shiny and maintanance free. I wash my hair every 3 days and this treatment stayed strong in my hair from August to March, when I it became difficult to blow out and I needed to go back to flat ironing especially the top.... Can't wait to get it done again in a few weeks. I don't understand how people are claiming it doesn't work. Maybe it depends on hair type but everyone that I know that has tried it has had awesome results. Hope this was helpful.
ReplyDeleteIn order for a "Product" to work properly you have to read up on it; use it the way the Manufacturer suggests. The application must be thoroughly worked into the hair with a stiff brush and saturate. Timing is important, and pre-rinsing some relaxer out before flat ironing will give a less than pin-straight effect. The number of passes through the hair with the iron and the temperature also makes a difference in the results. Rushing, skipping procedure to save time, taking large sections to save time, all jeopardize the effectiveness and results. The Stylist must know "Procedure" and the active ingredients and how they work. It's all relative...as well as thickness, texture, porosity of the hair you're working with. After that, follow maintenance suggestions to the letter...?????Trust me...you'll be pleased!
ReplyDeleteHOLY CRAP! You spent $600 and over 6 hours in the salon?!
ReplyDeleteI got mine done at The David Groshen Salon for half the time and half the cost. Mine lasted a little over 6 months. I think I was able to stretch it to 8 months by washing my hair 2/3 times a week using magick sleek shampoo/conditioner. After Magick Sleek at The David Groshen Salon Ive been doing Magick Sleek only and its been a life saver. I havent turned back to other straighteners or relaxers.
Im sorry that other salon gave yu an experience like that!
I had magic sleek done and loved it.. for about 2 weeks!! It costs about $250 and is supposed to last about 4 MONTHS.. mine is back to my original hair in less than 1 month.. I did EVERYTHING I was told, no swimming, only use magic sleek shampoo and conditioner etc.. but it washed out more on each shampoo! I used Salon Tech Keratin straightening a few times before(as well as others) and it is the ONLY one that gets my hair pin straight and keeps it that way !! And I didn't even use salon tech shampoo and conditioner after, I used pureology! If the results I had for the first few days after my magic sleek treatment lasted, I would love it, but they don't
ReplyDeleteAlso, I looked at the ingredients in magic sleek and it does contain keratin
ReplyDeleteI'm a guy and I got magic sleek twice counting today its an amazing product. It lasted me 6 months with the help of the shampoo and conditioner. Every time you use the conditioner it feels like just just left the salon. And it was only 130$
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get it done because I'm seeing a lot of negative comments compared to yours
DeleteYou can have it done at MARLENNYS 157 South st. New Providence. Price from $ 200.00 908 4641212
DeleteI had it done,I loved it for a few days! I bought the specific magic Sleek shampoo and conditioner they told me to buy at their salon, each time I washed my hair it got more wavy and frizzy, bye the fifth day my hair was just as frizzy and curly as it was before I paid to have it done. I was very disappointed and upset because it took my time and money. I wish the results I had for the first day could actually last up to 6 months like they say. I followed very strict instructions I was even afraid to sweat or go anywhere near the pool for fear of getting anything else in my hair smh
ReplyDeleteThis product is working as designed. I love it. Did it twice.
ReplyDeleteHi there. I'm curious whether you used their aftercare shampoo/conditioner? I did not the first time and was happy with the results but I am at a salon now getting it done and they say I need it
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa- how did your treatment turn out? Would you recommend it?
ReplyDeleteCan you use regular shampoo with sulfate and sodium and still have the results they say that last 6months?
ReplyDeleteChristina's hair salon in north babylon does the best keritan treatment

ReplyDeletefrizzy hair remedy home
oh wow, I will stick to Brazilian blowout with formaldehyde lol
ReplyDeleteHas anyone found a way to combat the dryness effect of Magic Sleek? I did it about 3 months ago, and religiously used the shampoo and conditioner, and though it has stayed straight, it does seem "dry" and not smooth/shiny anymore. Can I do hot oil treatment?

ReplyDeleteMy hair frizzes so much in humidity.Magic sleek made my hair feel like silk. The cost was 350.00 and it was worth it. No formaldehyde!
ReplyDeleteMagic sleek !!!!! Nothing so magical about it it has destroyed my hair my hair feels worse than a Brillo pad it is so bad you can’t even get a counter I’ve use three bottles of the conditioner in the coma still not go through my hair and I’m on my second week where I feel like I’m going to have no hair because it has destroyed it. I went from having almost black hair to having bright brassy orange hair. The product is disgusting I would not recommend it stick to your Keratins ladies... There are plenty of choices that actually penetrate the cuticle to correct damage hair. Magic sleek does nothing but sit on top of the cuticle stripping you of all your color and leaving your hair terribly dry like hay in worse than a Brillo pad. I still regret ever putting this product in my hair. Are used to come out of the shower call my hair and throw it up in a bun those days are gone I can’t even get a brush through it and unless I dry it it’s disgusting...
ReplyDeleteSomeone please help my hair is so damaged from having a magic sleek done on Saturday it is disgusting it totally change the color of my hair. I seriously look like a bright yellow we orange glowing sun and I had dark brown hair with caramel highlights. What a waste of my time and money you physically cannot calm it out. Have to using pretty much the entire bottle of the conditioner I bought for this product. I had to reach for my other conditioners trying to get my hair to feel like hair that didn’t even work so guess what I did I decided to take a pair of scissors to it and now I have a Bob thanks to magic sleek it is disgusting and makes the hair feel gross. Unless you want dried hair in a totally new color hair. I am suggesting do not do this go with a Keratin... Brazilian blowout, Lazio and La Brazilian
ReplyDeleteMagic sleek thank you for turning my beautiful hair into shitty hair if that was the magic track it worked... Sad ruined hair short hair a new color hair all due to magic sleek ruining my hair...
I feel your pain. We should start a class act law suit.
DeleteI Can’t Stand my hair now
ReplyDeleteThis review was mine- the user name is incorrect
ReplyDeleteTrust me a good quality hair product is a life saving hack and a must utility of your bag best hair straightening brush
ReplyDeleteBe careful what you wish for. I went two (2) weeks ago to have the Magic Sleek process done. I always wanted straight hair without going through the whole blow out process every morning. I had the Magic Sleek done to my hair at a reputable salon in NJ. I was there from 1:45 pm to 7:00 pm. Firstly, they do not tell you that 3 inches from your routes down will turn an orange color. (My hair is dark brown). So that is an added hair coloring ($) on top of the $400. for the Magic Sleek, plus, the added expense for shampoo, conditioner and oil that goes with the Magic Sleek (and the big tip). Be prepared to spend spend spend. I was told at the salon, that I would not have to even blow dry my hair after washing. It would dry straight. That is a complete lie. I washed my hair, conditioned and oiled two days after, my hair was so frizzy. It was not straight as they claim it would be. I still use the recommended products, my hair is still frizzy not straight. I do see here and there some wavy with the frizz all over. It takes me just about the same time to now, blow out my hair straight like I have done prior to getting the Magic Sleek. I regret it. Woman to woman, please do not get it and spend your hard earned money Spend that money on a beautiful designer handbag for yourself. I wish I could get my money back, but I would not dare to ask. This is my experience, I hope you do not go through the same. I would never get this done again. I’m going to be cutting my long hair off to a pixie cut and go my natural way, curly.
ReplyDeleteEven I have some magic sleek treatment in my wavy hair and I am using magic sleek shampoo and conditioner from first was but hair don’t look any change. It’s still wavy. And after treatment my hair is fallling out too much.
